Finally Together

This week, Jess was asked if he would do an interview on a local Denver radio station. He had so much fun with it. You can listen to the interview at http://www.thefox.com/ and click on the Master Podcast link at the bottom of the page. His interview is listed under Jesse.

He was able to do some more swimming this week. They worked with him on different exercises in the water as well as floating. He was actually able to float by himself. The said that the shoes and brace definitely help out with floating, but it was a great start.

He also has been learning how to do some of his own stretching. Which can be VERY difficult, but He's done pretty well at it. Unfortunately, Jess has been dealing with a lot of nerve pain. We aren't truly convinced that it is nerve pain, but what I can tell you is that it is absolutely unbearable at times. It seems to have gotten worse with the medication, or at least not gotten any better. The Doctors are also wondering if he has developed a condition called H.O. (I can't remember what it stands for). Its when your body develops bone where it shouldn't. He will be having a series of bone scans this week to see if he does have H.O. In a way we are hoping that he has started to develop it and that is where the pain is coming from. Because if that is the case, the meds should make the pain go away. But we will just have to wait and see. In the mean time Jess will just have to try and bear through the pain.

Craig had a great Christmas Concert this last week. It was not only hospital staff, but patience and alumni as well. We really haven't been in much of the Holiday mood yet, so it was nice to hear some Christmas music. And some REALLY good talent.

Jess has really been getting his wheelie's down. Practice makes perfect they say. And I don't think lifting weights and time hurts any either.

This is one of Jess' wheelchair classes. They were playing "Go Ball" Its kind of a mix between football and soccer. As you can see in the picture, it gets kinda crazy at times. They are all just a little competitive :)

Thursday Jess was discharges from the hospital and we moved into the apartments as a family. He had spent one day short of eight weeks in the hospital. So it was extremely nice and a little nerve racking to be out. I think the biggest part was getting all of his medications organized. And not having an extra set of hands when Briley is fussy. But it's been SO nice to be together. Two months is a long time to be apart.
We bought our tickets to come home on December 31st, which happens to be our anniversary. What a great present. We can't wait to be home. We will only be home for a couple of weeks before we will have to come back to Denver to finish rehab, but we CAN'T WAIT!!! It will be here before we know it.

Briley is getting so much more comfortable trying to walk. Its nothing for her to take a step or two now. But she still isn't taking more than a couple of steps. It think her most is 7. She does LOVE to stand up by herself. Just a couple of days ago she learned how to push up to a standing position without any help and she thinks its pretty cool. She started learning how on the bed next to Jess. She would push off him and stand up, and then fall down on him and laugh and laugh at herself. She is such a great distraction. Our little Bundle of Joy!

Al -

The radio show sounded great man! It was nice to hear your voice again.

The pictures on the blog are top notch! That game of "go ball" looks like it can get pretty physical. No babies allowed in that game!

It looks and sounds like you and the family are doing well. Stay strong and we'll see you soon.

Jess, we loved the radio interview. You must have been really calm and collected, because there wasn't a hint of nervousness in your voice. Way to go! Emily, we thought your report of the last few days, and the Brown Palace party report were wonderful! Your excitement and happiness were evident in the photos and in your words; how nice that some company made such a wonderful gesture. I've been to the Brown Palace once, in 1965, and was very impressed with it then. I was also in shock (over the menu), but a friend's dad was treating everyone, so the shock passed and I ate like a starving person! I know you guys are counting the days now. Coming home, even temporarily, is the best anniversary present you could get right now, I bet! Keep on blogging--know you're super busy, but we really love seeing the photos and reading the news. Love, Wayne and Carolyn

I am so glad to hear you are in your own place together. It must be refreshing. We continue to pray for you all and especially for the doctors to figure out where this new pain is coming from. We also pray that this Christmas is more special than any you've had together. In the midst of it all, God is good and "...in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28. I know it isn't always easy to keep going and push through, but be encouraged. God loves your little family and He IS looking out for you and cheering you on!
Merry Christmas,
Mike, Julie, Kaylee and Joseph

Jess; so nice to hear your voice on our answering machine the other day. We all can't wait to see you, too! Glad you got to take in the Christmas concert...I myself will snap if I hear Kenny G butcher one more holiday classic. I'm glad you took up the guitar and not the clarinet (isn't that what he plays?), otherwise I'm not sure we could be friends. Give Emily and Briley hugs, and yourself as well!

We are thinking of you this morning, knowing you never expected to be spending Christmas in Denver, in Craig, but full of admiration for what you have accomplished there, and how high your spirits continue to be. Special Christmas prayers are being said for all 3 of you this morning. Love, Carolyn and Wayne, Christmas Day

Jess, Emily and Briley,

Just wanted to wish you a very MERRY Christmas. Our house is just starting to wake up - yup, the kids are not huddled around the tree waiting for us to get up. We will be having Alison's parents over, and of course, my parents are here as well.

I just wanted to let you guys know that we are thinking of, and praying for, you all.

We LOVE you.

By the way, Zack cut his hair into a mohawk last night. Always seeking attention.

Always,

David, Alison and family

Merry Christmas,
To know you've made it to the apartment together and were able to be "nestled, all snug in their beds" as a family on Christmas Eve is awesome. I SO look forward to hearing the radio spot and am glad I scrolled back down to the Party blog - I see the added video of the pool. Once I get some speakers up, I'll listen to them both!
I know that not being in Montana or Alaska with family & friends must have been a huge challenge on Christmas. As I went about Eagle River with my Jess Button the last few days I've had tons of folks as me about you...and those who know the Lord add to the gazillions of folks who pray for you.
I just want you to know that as you approach your next milestone and head back to Dillon, AND your anniversary, that He is so "in your corner", and backed up by all of us who love you. I'll pray that the pain situation gets figured out...the H.O. is NOT a ho, ho, ho, kind of thing but way more manageable/trackable.
Hugs to you all, you are doing amazingly well, and encourage us all.
Until He Comes,
Joan

Dear Jesse - First of all, Merry Christmas! We had a nice Christmas, the kids came over XMas eve and opened presents then my brother and his two little boys came over XMas day for a light dinner. Jacob was thriled with his new bindings for his snowboard and he also got a pack of 4 lift passes for Alyeska. He has already gone there once and he really enjoys snowboarding. Kayla and Marina and Chase all havd a nice Christmas too. Anyway, I have been staying away form the computre for several days now and decided I had better take a look and read what was happening. Looks like you really enjoy the water. I can swim, but I have never liked it. When I was 14 and then again when I was 19, I nearly drowned and I get the chills even thinking about those two incidents. Trish and I went skiing today with Chase and I was thinking about a friend of mine who is also my Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, or at least he used to be. Anyway his first name is Mark and and 12 years ago Mark was sitting in a bear stand up near Sutton and he fell out of it and broke his back. He has been in a wheelchair ever since then. However, since that time he has shot and killed his own black bear, Grizzly bear and is planning a brown bear hunting trip to southwest Alaska next year I think. Mark is also a world class wheelchair racer. He has done teh race from Fairbanks to Anchorage 8 times now and last summer his goal was to take second and he did just that. Then in June, Mark flew to Denver for a wheelchair race there as well, not sure how he did though. Anyway, Mark is a very inspiring individual. His racing shair is cool. I have been out jogging and he has passed me and I have been out with Trish biking and we have seen him as well. Believe it or not, he actually lives right around the corner from us here in Eagle River. Anyway, I got Mark to tell me his story once and you what I remember most is that he flat refused to let himself be considered disabled just because he could not walk anymore. Mark went on and got his college education and became a DVR counselor. His job now is to advocate and assist other people with disabilities to obtain employment and to ensure that they have safe/equal working conditions. DVR exists in every State Jesse, and you should check it out eventually. I realize your a carpenter, this accident has created a significant hurtle for you to continue as a carpenter, but there are so many more things you can do. I am sharing this with you not only as a friend, but as an advocate. As I emntioned before I work with high school students whom have severe disabilities, five of which use wheelchairs. I have been so bust lately planning our trip to take these kids to Alyeska so they can participate in the Challenge Aalska Adaptive ski school. The wheelchair kids will sled-ski and they love it. A big part of my job is the fund raising effort. Anyway, hang in there Jesse, no matter what, God is great, and HE loves us all. HE wants us to make our lives wholesome, fruitful and complete. I pray for your pain to go away, and I pray for continued healing. I pray also that you will begin looking ahead for your family's sake. Sky's the limit Jesse, just cuz your on wheels does not mean an end to anything, it simply means change. We love you all, I pray that your trip home next week is blessed in many ways and that your return to Craig is safe and that your continued rehab teaches you much and that the benefits continue to shine upon you.
Your brother in Christ,
John Conrad and crew

Hi Jess and family,
My brother (Jason) told me about your accident. It looks like you have a great outlook and positive attitude. I think you are smiling in every picture! :) I am sure that will only speed up your healing! I wish you and your family the very best and will continue to keep you in my prayers!
God bless and Take Care,
Sara (Lorentzen) Hanson

(Also, some other ways to help with healing you might want to look into are Healing Touch Therapy, Reiki and Cold Laser Therapy. These are Very, very beneficial for healing after injuries!)

Just thinking of you guys all the time. I hear the benefit went very well. I am so glad. I would have loved to have been there but I was in Lousiana. I am sorry I did not see you. Hope you are doing well and I can't wait for more updates! Love to you all.
