Feeling Your Support

Today was another day of tests and rehab. This morning Jess was wheeled off for an MRI to check up on his injuries and see the extent of the damage. After his morning test we had just enough time to catch a bite to eat and then head off to have an EMG test done. The Drs ordered this test to see exactly what kind of nerve damage was done to his arm. Jess was really glad to get this test behind him, both because it is a very painful test and because we want to know what to expect of his arm in the future.

His physical therapy today was simply getting fitted into a new wheelchair. Which may sound easy, but since Jess is so tall, its was really hard for them to find a wheelchair that even came close to fitting him.

So after all his tests, lunch, more tests, and therapy sessions Jess was in his wheelchair for over 4 hours straight. Talk about an improvement in the last week. That's 4 times longer than last Monday.

I think the reality of the situation is really starting to hit home, but the Drs and staff here are so amazing and supportive. I can't even begin to express how incredible this center is. We are truly blessed to be here. But even more so Jess wants to thank everyone for your comments. After going through a long day like today your comments really encouraged him to keep on pushing through. Thanks so much for being there for us in this difficult time.

Hey Jess -

David Thurman here. I heard about your accident through Facebook. I am now a dentist and live in Downtown Denver near Invesco Field (Broncos).

If I can be of help in any way, please let me know. I have some contacts in the Medical field here and can help find places for friends or family member to stay if they are visiting.

Jess & Emily,
This will be a short note, but you can expect a long letter since I don't want to bore or overwhelm others who visit the blog (Rehab jargon, stories about other SCI heros in my lift etc.)

I wept with joy after reading the post about how awesome Craig and the staff are - I knew that was where you needed to be, and prayed SO hard that was His plan for you all.

When I started out in Rehab in the early 70's I was a night nurse...so I know how long and hard the nights can be. Some of the best times I had counseling, listening and teaching folks was during those years. I will pray that there are humorous, compassionate and skilled folks on nights with you.

You all look awesome, and I can TOTALLY relate to the comment about Briley not walking yet...Caitlin took her first steps a month after her 1st birthday, and life as I knew it changed forever :).

I will get a letter out to you after Caitlin and I finish our move into the Morse's "cabin" apartment. We are blessed to have them in our "family" because of Him.
I still remember names, faces, stories (blood, sweat and tears) of patients I cared for over 40 years ago. I didn't know the Lord until many years later, and some of those folks were a witness to me that sowed the seeds that brought me to Him.
YOU ALL WILL BE A HUGE ENCOURAGEMENT TO THE STAFF - AND THEY WILL NEVER FORGET YOU. I pray that folks will accept His salvation as a result of their meeting Him through you.
Praying...and loving you all from a distance!
Joan
PS - now I have to do some ADLs :)

Joshua 1:9, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” (NIV) Wow, even as you travel in unfamiliar territories, face unknown battles, you can be confident of victories. Praying for all of you.

Just checking in on all of you. thanks you emily for all the updates. Wow, Jess - Emily and Briley - two very special ladies in your life. No wonder you are working so hard. So many new things to learn and master but I know you will meet the challenge, especially with Emily by your side. Speaking of learning new things... Jessica, Clint and their two boy are in the process of moving to dillon, so the boys hang with Old Gramma Colette and Very Old Grampa Mike a couple days a week. Back to doing homework, times table, spelling test, the dreaded cursive writing, etc. talk about re-teaching old dogs old tricks. Teasuring every moment and having good times. Stay strong and I hope bright days out number the dark day - thinking of all of you daily.
oh ya GO BEAVS Beat Billings Central Will be a great game Saturday.
sending lots of love your way!!

So glad to have this blog to chat with you until you are back in Dillon. I have been thinking of you a lot and I'm praying for you and your family every day. Our history goes back a long way! I wonder how many hours we spent playing basketball on your "dunk" hoop at the old Utah St home. We used to play til dark!
Talked to Gabe for quite awhile tonight and he caught me up on your progress. He said you are in great spirits...I am really proud of you Jess. You and your family have always meant a lot to me and I wish you all well. We'll have to get Walks to guide us down the Beav next summer. You take good care now. My best to you always, Kyle Andersen
