Yesterday Jess was fitted for another wheelchair. Even though this one still isn't quite long enough for him, it fits a whole lot better. Every couple of days the hospital brings in dogs for people to play with and just be around. So yesterday when Briley saw one of the dogs, she got so excited. As you can see from the pictures, they got along pretty well.
Today Jess was supposed to test out different wheelchairs so that he could decide which one he wants to order, but he was wheeled off for what was supposed to be a short procedure instead. When he was at St. Patrick Hospital they put in a filter into his jugular vein, to catch any blood clots. Well, the Dr here didn't want him to have it in any longer so he sent him in to have it removed, and it was a good thing. The device had actually moved and instead of laying vertical in the vein it was at an angle and wedged into the sides of the vein. The procedure was supposed to take 20 minutes and it took about 2 and a half hours. Needless to say, I was doing my best not to be worried and I think the same can be said for Jess. Unfortunately, Jess had eaten breakfast, because he hadn't been told about the surgery, so they weren't able to sedate him. He said that it was probably the most pain he has been through, throughout this entire ordeal and is so glad to have this day behind him.
Even though today was really difficult, we are so thankful that the Dr decided to have the device removed now instead of waiting the normal 6 months. The surgeon told Jess that it could have presented some really serious complications if they would have waited any longer. Just another reason to be thankful that we are here at Craig.

Hi Jess and Em,
Briley is adorable and definantly a Daddy's girl. Noticed that you are sporting a fiberglass reinforcment. Sharon has had to wear one also. She has had several lombar surjuries over the last several years. Kenny is married to Amy, but I don't think you have met her. She is very sweet and they are perfect for each other. Hoping for some little Briley's of their own soon...me too! I have been helping them build a cabin up by Caswell (mile 87 turn off by Sheep Creek) on the weekends all summer. It is looking great. Keep working hard on the theropy! Every day is blessed by the glory of God. Look into Briley's smiing face and that trueth will be looking back at you! Love you guys very much. Ken and Sharon

I can't tell you how much we love the blog even though I know it takes Emily's time to keep it current - so, Thank You Emily. Oh, p.s., the pictures are such fun, too.
Did our cartoons arrive yet? Hope you enjoyed them :) Couldn't resist.
I can't remember a November when we've had warmer weather. It isn't helping the duck hunting any since the northerns haven't yet arrived.
I'm hoping they're planning a big Thanksgiving feed for all of you at Craig.....sounds like Jess will be able to eat all he wants -- gosh 25 pounds - better break out the Sees candy :)
We pray for you daily and know that you are working really hard.
We hope you are peaceful. oxox Bev and Poncho
Sup Jess,
You have some great doctors, glad to hear they caught the problem in your neck before it became really serious. Good to see PT is going well, I bet it is tough, but I know you will get through it quicker than anyone else. Like Em said in her last post "you know that when he sets his mind to something, there is no holding him back", isn't that the truth!!!! Look at your wife. You have one awesome family supporting you. Keep up the great recovery so we can come visit you, Em, and Briley in Montana. Love ya man!!
Marty
I saw Dave at Safeway Friday. I didn't get a real good chance to talk to him because Joe Morstein got to him first and I had to get back to work. Question for you though, does Craig have padded rooms and what my friend Casey calls hug me coats, lol. I really needed one Friday. We have Madagascar 2 and High School Musical 3 playing, talk about a nightmare. Keep up the good work.
Oh one more thing, Briley tell mom and dad you want a dog.
Just checking in. Sorry to hear so had to go thru such pain, glad that is over and things turned out well. Beavs fought a great battle in football yesterday but came up short. So now we'll get ready to cheer on the wrestlers, volleyballers and bb players, but most of all we will be cheering you on. Sounds like you are making great progress - all those small little feats lead to great accomlishments - I am so humbled by your strength and determination!! May not write often, but you enter my thoughts many times thru the day. Saying extra prayers for the healing of your arm. Take care. Thank you Emily for all the updates - i think you are an amazing young woman! cm
Hey Jess, Emily, and Briley,
This blog is wonderful! So nice to come on here and see how happy and well you all are doing. Amazing progress.....Your blog today really showed how great a decision it was to go down to Denver, even though we miss you all here.
Love, Jessica
Jess, Emily and beautiful Briley - I love your site and follow your progress daily. Your strength and hope are an inspiration to me. I love you guys!

Hey Jess, Emily and Briley-
I had a chance to attend a church service at Big Sky this morning. The pastor asked if there were any people that needed special prayers. I told the congregation your story....you have the whole church in Big Sky now praying for you as well.
Wishing you peace,
Kyle A
Hey Jess it's me Jillian. I'm happy to hear that you are doing better. I'm sorry for what happened. I love you and miss you A LOT!!!

Jess, Emily and Briley - We are so glad to see that you are doing better and truly excited that you are in Denver for rehab. What a wonderful place to be. We continue to pray for you each day and hope that you will feel the presence of the Lord each and every day. He is truly our strength. Happy belated birthday to Briley, looks like she enjoyed her cake. Sending love and prayers, John and Pat Sherry
Jess & Emily,
Whata blessing that the docs made the decision to do the jugular vein procedure - I can only imagine how hard it was to have the procedure without anesthesia...Jess - did they at least give you a bullet to bite on (John Wayne style)?
I know the fitting for the chair is a huge challenge for a tall fellow - will they be putting weights on it to avoid the tipping?
The photo of the mat/trunk control training was awesome to see - and that you are pulling that off with your left arm still a challenge is awesome! The awesome thing about rehab is the inclusion of family, pets and whatever it takes to promote normalcy...I love seeing Briley getting so intimate with the chair - and that it's helping HER trunk control/balance :).
I hope that you are getting some rest this weekend, and that Jess is tired enough at the end of his day that his sleep in the night (in between the necessary interruptions) is solid and refreshing.
You are doing amazing things - much earlier than 99% of folks facing the same injury. The power of prayer, His strength and power, the strength of your marriage are all being made visible to others. It's a "Blessing Blog" for those of us who are your cheerleaders!!!
Thanks for all of the postings.
Caitlin & I are 99% moved into our new cozy "Morse Cabin", so my letter(s) will be written soon. In the meantime, know that I know the details of what you are being taught, and my heart and head are full of thoughts of you 24/7s.
I used to use a flashlight on night shift as I went about disrupting the sleep of the weary warriors I cared for...positioning, and all of the rest. I hope they don't turn the fluorescents on in your nights...:).
The love and prayers (and an available ear in the middle of the night) continue.
Joan
Jess-
Forgot to tell you this.....my friend Mark Morel is also at Craig's right now. He was involved in an accident several weeks ago. If you happen to run into him, tell him Kyle Andersen in Dillon says hello.
