Lots of News

Boy do I have a lot to write about today. First off I want to thank Sara, Savannah, Sage, Brice and Clay for drawing Jess pictures. He absolutely loves them. So kids keep them coming!

We have had a great couple of days. Sunday was another lazy day. We spent most of it in his room hanging out as a family and watching more football :)

Yesterday was a great day with both ot and pt. Jess is getting so much better on his balance. He was able to sit unassisted and balance for 50 seconds. We also did our first transfer by ourselves. I helped him transfer from his wheelchair to the pt mat and then back again. I couldn't believe how much of the transfer he does himself. On the second transfer I barely had to help him at all. It's pretty amazing how well he is doing, especially with his left arm.

We also got some REALLY big news yesterday. The doctors have decided to send us home on December 18th. We will be in Dillon for about a month and then need to come back to Craig and finish off rehab. There were a lot of factors that went into this decision. One of the main reasons is that Jess has to ware the TLSO brace until January 16th, and there are a lot of things that He will not be able to work on until the brace is off. Another big factor is his left arm. The more time we can give it to heal the easier it will be for him to learn some of the more advance transfers.

We are so excited to spend the holidays at home, but we're a little nervous at the same time. It just seems so fast. We have a lot to learn and a lot to do in the next 4 weeks. But were up for the challenge.

So if anyone knows of a single story house with no stairs available let us know.

This morning Jess had pool therapy for the first time. And for all of you who know Jess, you know how much he LOVES the water. Because of the weightlessness he was able to do things with his left arm that he hasn't been able to do.

The pool therapist even thought she felt one of his leg muscles contract! She wasn't sure, but we'll take "thought" any day :)

After pool therapy we had to hurry upstairs and get him dried off and changed in just 15 minutes for pt. We didn't quite make it on time, but he had a great pt session.

One of the things they worked on in pt was a electrical impulse test on his leg muscles. When Stephanie, his physical therapist, tested his muscles they responded! That means that he is will be able to do some therapy on one of the bikes they have here. They hook your legs onto the bike as well as an electrical machine that shocks your muscles, which makes your legs peddle the bike. The bike reads how much work your muscles are doing on there own and then decreases the impulse accordingly.
From my understanding the bike is just used to exercise your muscles. It doesn't help with the signals sent through your spinal cord. But it sure is encouraging to know that the muscles are still reacting.

Another exciting thing that happened today was Jess was able to stand up in a standing chair. He had to transfer over to this "chair" they have and they adjusted it to his height, strapped him in, and pulled a lever that propped the seat up slowly. It sure was crazy seeing him stand up. I had forgotten how tall he is.
So today was another great day and tomorrow is going to be even better! Candy, Dave, Lindsey, Anna, and Pat come in tomorrow for Thanksgiving. We are so excited to see them and spend Thanksgiving as a family. We have SO MUCH to be thankful for!!!

Woooo Whoooo Jess!!!
What a HUGE day of new things, thanks so much Emily (for taking the time after a L-o-n-g day) to share all of these wonderful milestones.

The Lord's provision, protection, healing and strength are shining through you both. He will continue to sustain, cradle, prod, and uplift you (without a sliding board :) ).

Great to see Jess in the water and standing - Those puppies come in handy to work on cars etc.;.

I got a bit nostalgic hearing about the e-stim and bicycle...I fought like a mad woman to get one of Dr. Petrofsky's bikes here in Alaska. (I think that's how you spell the inventors name)...it was such an unusual place to send one he came and visited my Rehab unit. That was over 20 years ago - I can only imagine how high tech it must be now...and WOOOO WHoooooo that you are using it, and the got feedback from your muscles...great way to prevent having "Betty Spaghetti" legs, and to keep that circulation going...PLUS - it's SO early in your recovery...and you are doing things other folks take years to get to try (if ever).
Praise the Lord, HE IS SUCH AN AWESOME FATHER...and HE is in control.
Have a blessed day, and may you be sleeping like a rock as I write this...
Love, Until He Comes,
Joan

The Blog is the absolute HIGHLIGHT of my day! I wait until the new post comes up LATE at night, so I don't get a whole lot of sleep, being it's two hours different up here.

Well Jess, your smiling face on a button is now scattered all over Eagle River. I passed out nearly 100 at school today and will need to have more sent up here to Alaska! Everyone wants one.

WOW!! Your progress and endurance is increasing by leaps and bounds. It reminds me of a scripture which says, "The good hand of the Lord was upon me." I just about want to jump and shout out loud seeing all that you have done in just the past few days. God's favor and blessing certainly has been evident in both you and Emily. There is a scripture in Colossians 1:9-14 which we not only pray for you both, but also SEE IN you.

"We have continued praying for you ever since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you a complete understanding of what He wants to do in your lives, and we ask Him to make you wise with spiritual wisdom. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and you will continually do good, kind things for others. All the while, you will learn to know God better and better.

We also pray that you will be strengthened with His glorious power so that you will have all the patience and endurance you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father, who has enabled you to share the inheritance that belongs to God's holy people who live in the light. For He has rescued us from the one who rules in the kingdom of darkness, and He has brought us into the Kingdom of His dear Son. God has purchased our freedom with His blood, and has forgiven ALL our sins.

May you have a VERY BLESSED THANKSGIVING!! Enjoy the turkey,
"booball", family and a relaxing day just being together. Lots of love, hugs, kisses, and a few extra ones for Briley. We will give you a call! Love Mom and Dad and Jesse

Things have pretty exciting for us...we have a grandson, Braxton John who doesn't look like his grandparents but resembles his dad and has his mother's disposition. Having you home for Christmas is exciting and we have a special cowgirl gift for Miss Briley! Jess and Emily you are an inspiration and daily we see how much stronger you are. Love to all of you and we hope you feel our arms around you like a warm blanket on a cold night. Love and prayers for all of you.

Hi to all! Not sure if you got Mom's message yet, but she says you can use her house if you need it. It's empty as it is 'on the market'. I'm sure we can set it up with some furnishings. The only stairs go up to a single bedroom, and since there are three others on the main floor you really won't need it. It would be great having you guys join us in "Millerville". Happy Turkey Day!! Love, Nissa

Wow I don't know if you guys are able to read all of these comments, but bless your heart if you even read half of them. :0) I wanted to write to say Happy Thanksgiving and also you let you know that our Young Married's Group in Redding California are praying for you guys. We're a group of young married couples, some with young children so we feel a special burden to pray for you guys. Emily thank you for responding to my e-mail, I don't know how you have the time! I love reading your blogs. You give so much detail. It's so wonderful to see all the progress Jess is making. Jess, I haven't had the pleasure of meeting you, but I know you must be an amazing person because I know how wonderful your wife is. It's been so long since I've seen you Emily, but you'll always be a dear friend.
Blessings to both of you, Stephani Gurczynski (aka bianes)

Good evening Jess,Emily & Briley-
Just finished reading the news and am so excited for you Jess. You are doing fantastic! Just wanted to wish you all a happy Thanksgiving! The rehab you are going through is amazing, God obviously had it in HIS plans for you to be there. Going home for the Holidays will be refreshing for you all. We will continue our prayers for you to continue to be blessed by HIS healing hand. Jacob was asking me some questions about you today that I really could not answer, but I told him that when Jess gets better we can ask him then. AND I told him that we must continue to pray for Jess because God can and will make him better with our faithfulness to HIM and our endless prayer for healing. Thanks for your inspirational news on the blog.

Hi from Grandpa Larry and Grandma Jo!

After all this time we're finally able to put a message in your blog thanks to grandson Noah's help. We're concerned about all the things that have happened to you and your family.

Dee has been keeping us posted on all the developments that have been occurring. We've had such a good warm feeling for you, Jess and fond memories of the two weeks we spent with you in June. Looking at your blog it's encouraging to see the progress that you (Jess) have made in such a short time. Along with this we're happy that Emily is such a strong and good support.

Lots of love and best wishes to you both,
Grandpa Larry & Grandma Jo

My neighbors (borjas) house is empty now. The only problem might be the bathroom and you would have to get some furnishings. Yes, I'm still trying to get you as my neighbor, lol.
